I am building an older engine for my newer model truck and have a question about valve cover vents and air cleaner vaccumm ports.I am using an open air cleaner and someone told me that I needed to run a vent for my one valve cover to the bottom of the air cleaner which does not have any holes in it. obviously the other side has the pcv valve. I thought the one side did not need to be vented as long as the other side had the pcv in it. Please help me.

acenitro, you need fresh air going in so thats the purpose of the hose from the bottom of the breather, to filter the air going in

I don't run a hose the to air cleanner, I just use a vented cap on one valve cover and a PCV valve on the other. I don't like all the hoses running everywhere. I've never had a problem Member Since 11/27/2006

OT and 54 nash are both right. you could run a breather cap off of the valve cover itself; but if you cover doesn't have a baffle under the opening, i wouldn't recommend it.

Nope not neccesary, your choice. I run a PCV in one and a breather on the other but my covers are baffled, if there not you will get oil all over .

Put an after market breather cap that fits in the valve cover. Most of them come with a gromet that pops in to the cover.
