Ok - Feedback on the New "Upgraded" Site.

Before I begin, there has been a lot of grief taken and given for Members voicing their "Opinions" about the Site and this needs to stop. We all have our opinions and we are all entitled to the right to voice those opinions. That freedom of speach is one of the things that made the NSMC Site what it  was and is.

I am going to give my "Honest" Oprinion of the site and will take whatever complaints and crap I am given for doing so.

The Site was Changed for reasons that benefit the Club and their ability to run and host their own site giving more control over content and structure.

I feel from a Business standpoint the change was a beneficial one for the Club. The change allowed the restructure, and ability to add more features to draw new Members and give current Members  more out of the site. Some people like it some do not. You can never please everyone. But as a Business transaction the change will bring more income and lessen expendatures for site maintenance.

There are issues that need to be resolved, and they have been stated numerous times and we have been patiently awaiting the corrections and release of upgrades to the software that will hopefully create a simpler to use site. I am sure the Club is doing everything it can to remedy the problems, and return some of the features we were used to and are presently missing. I hope it happens.

I do however have a msjor concern.

The biggest problem with the present site is that when the change occurred one Major " Fubar" occurred that I hope can be fixed.

The "Heart" of the site that we had that gave this site a "Life" and a "Family" feel has been lost and I have not seen much hope for it's return. The Posting has almost come to a"Comatose" Statelinge and the "Friendly down home feeel has been replaced with a Business like feel-- Making a Post has become more like a bank transaction than a Friendly phone call.  I used to Enjoy viewing, posting and just chatting- now I just stop in to see if any "Life" has returned to my once pleasant "Home".

I will pray for the return of that "Aura" that made visiting the Site like going out for a Friday night with the Boys, or just chewing the Bull in the Garage while working on a ride.

Well that about sums up my  "Feedback" on the site, If I offended anyone OH well they asked for feedback and that's mine.

Please return the "Life" to our site.

Edit:

I do Love this Club and all the Friends I have made. I consider all of you Family and have nothing against you guys. We have had our disagreements and some Crap has happened that has been swept under the rug for a new start. I am just saying this Site- which is a MAJOR part of our Club needs to be taken off of Life Suppport and get it's heart jump-started before it falls in with the masses of other car Sites that are nothing but Technical Gumbo. We had something great going and that has fallen by the wayside and that sincerely saddens me. We have lost a few of our Regularas .-how many more do we have to lose?? This was the Best Site I eve Saw and we made it great- lets get together and conquer the technical crap ourselves and make this site The Family Being we knew. It's up to us -as Giv so eloquently has stated the Club Honcho's are working on the Tech stuff but nothing they do will revive this site- We made the first one lets make this one.

Wheel; You bring up several good points. I agree that the site has changed, but change comes all the time, not only here at this site. Life is full of change and like it or not we have to deal with it. As for the "life" of the site, that is the members themselves that control the LIFE of the site. I believe that we the people who visit and participate in the forums are the ones who give life to the site. We have to get our attitudes out of the gutter and quit blaming the "admin" for that.
Giv;  I think your opinion is a little harsh. (my opinion only). The folks who are working on the site upgrades have many problems to deal with and as such they don't always have time to answer each email.
I was having problems logging on last week, don't know what happened but I couldn't get on. I sent an email to the  member services desk and they got me back on with no problem. So I thank them.
So I think that we all need to have a little patience with this change and I think we will be alright.

I had to spout off  so take it as you will.

Cuda, I think you took me all wrong.

I am not complaining and did not say anything that the Club is will do can fix this. Not all of us will ever agree on this site. Change happens- yes, but not all of it is good- Remember "NEW COKE" or "COKE II" ? The change has happened and I reallize there is nothing that can change that.

                                                BUT

My Point was  WE need to get together and revive this site before it's too Late. We have people complaining about "Off Topic" Psts and such, but we always did that. In my opinion-right now any post made is just breathing life back into our Baby.  ONLY WE can revive this Site and I know MOST of us are Upset and Aggrivated, but we need to cope with the Loss of Our Old Site and Build a Bigger and Better one.

If you  LOST a ride you would mourn it's loss, but in time build a new Better one.

Let's get off our Asses and do something- the Club can't do anything we MUST.

      That was my Point.

Well said Whellman, I concur with you when you stated that the task of making this site what we want it to be rest squarly upon OUR shoulders. As hot rodders and as Americans we are the ultimate can do people. It is not in keeping with my feeling to become part of the entitlment society. The thing that I have been most proud of  in life , are the thing which I have worked the hardest to get. I feel that making this club/site what we want it to be is OUR job, and no one elses.

I'm with you guys all the way. Now that the old site is officially gone, we have no choice but to try our best to get the feel of the old site transferred to this one. Once everyone gets more comfortable here, the car talk will return. I'm sure when "car weather" spreads to more of the country that will help a lot also. Hard to get into talking cars when it's cold, wet, windy and generally crappy out. Anyways, I would like to thank the admin or whoever takes care of these things, for fixing the page numbers so you can see them at the top of the screen. Now, about those darn smilies.............................................. :)

I think the more we post about cars the less we will think about some of this other stuff.
To that end I started a list of all the cars, motorcycles and trucks I have owned over the years and when I have it done I will start a new post and see what that starts.

Thanks to whoever is responsible for repairing the Page Number error.

we can now cross that one of our list.

Progress I can see. Keep up the good work on the rest of our issues and we will slowly get happier.

If you are browsing using Microsoft Internet Exploiter, then you should now be seeing gray bars at the top and bottom instead of the black that it was.
But, if using Firefox Browser, (which I prefer to use because Internet Exploiter sucks wazoo hairs by comparison) then we are still seeing the same black bars.
That's one of the fun things about website design. A site needs to be tested in different browsers, and different operating system platforms (Windows vs. Mac) to find any possible glitches.
There is still a browser compatibility issue that needs to be addressed.
Wes...Wes.....where or fart thou, my Wes? ;)

OK, I have the fix...It's a browser cache flushing issue!
If you are still seeing black bars instead of gray, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard while hitting your F5 key at the top of your keyboard. Not only does that refresh your page, but it also flushes the website's old cache files (crap that websites store on your computer's hard drive to make for faster return trips to the same site), and replaces them with the updated ones.
I'll bet you were just going to say the same thing, weren't you Wes?
You fart smeller....I mean smart feller!!! ;)

Hey Hey Ho Ho it works. Now that I cycled the old cache I can see it on both IE and Mozzilla.

Thanks guys.

Now about the fix for jumping back to the top of the first page after each post.......

Hi Wheelman. Hmm, I thought we were coming up on 5 weeks or so since the new site went live but I could be wrong.

I haven't heard back about the software upgrade since I've been back. As for the concerns you've had being addressed, I remember you being concerned with having a painfully slow website - fixed, losing chat - still there, navigation hassles with black text on a black background in the forums - fixed. As for smilies - nope, an easy click and paste way to add pictures to posts - nope. I guess you're up on what you can do and can't do right now as much as anybody.

Things are closer to being resolved, not as fast as we'd like but you haven't been forgotten about.

Sorry Wes that's not what i was referring to. I have said before you guys are doing a good Job and helping us out as well as solving most of our issues. It was6  weeks on the 19th but not relly concerned about that. I was just askin not griping. I was referring to(Issues) an On line Member list, a Registered user Directory, a PM notification on the Forums page( alert of some kind) Chat on thr Drop down menu under community, etc... Never heard an answer on that one and was just curious if they were going to be able to be put into affect. Guess I cameoff wrong, just being curious is all...........

No Sweat buddy, you didn't come off wrong!

Looks like we knocked some of the easy ones off our to do list and have a bunch more to go. :0)

"On line Member list, a Registered user Directory, a PM notification on the Forums page( alert of some kind) Chat on thr Drop down menu under community, etc... Never heard an answer on that one and was just curious if they were going to be able to be put into affect."

They're stalling on the drop down chat menu item because it will be integrated into the new system from the forums. The current PM system isn't ideal. I like having an email sent right away but can't easily respond so I feel your pain on that one... Pretty much everything you mentioned are basic functionality with the new software which is overdue for an upgrade.

Thanks for your patience, those are honest questions that you've had for a while so feel free to post them for sure. I'll find out what the latest info is because I have an internet meeting today.

Hey Wheelman,

Our Admin tech guru just showed me screenshots of the updated forum software currently running on a test server and a different in house site. They've got most of the bugs worked out and will start updating our forums in the order the sites were updated - which means we're almost last. :0)

Some good news: Smilies look pretty good, PM'ing is WAY better than the current system, inline pictures look good as well and there's some other thigns like a little marker that pops up in the lists of discussion threads telling you someone's posted since the last time you opened it.

It might be a slow boat to China but it's a comin'

Thanks for your patience.
