My first car was a 1976 Ford Ranchero. It had a 351 4 barrel automatic. For a kid of 16 and only costing $300 for a solid d.d., it wasn't too bad at all. No rust or dents, Crager S/S rims, bigs and littles of course and my dad made the BIG mistake of teaching me how to do the burnouts!!!  He used to tell me that he could tell when I did it because he could tell by the sound of the motor/exhaust...and that was from the other side of town!!  I am a die hard Chevy/GM man but hey first set of wheels could have been a VW and I still wouldn't have cared!! LOL!! Right!?

My first car is probably stranger than most. It was a 1960 Peugeot 403, 4 cylinder with 4 speed on the column.  First three were like a normal pattern with 4th in and up. Courted my wife in that car. Still have the wife. (39 years)Car died long ago. That was followed by a series of slant 6 Plymouths and Dodges, including a 1980 St. Regis, only one I ever saw with a slant six. This was the same body style VA state police used. It was a lot of fun flashing my lights and watching people move out of the way.

My first ride was a 69 roadrunner.I still have this car,I raced it for 4 years in the N.M.C.A. streetcar race sanction.I finished number 7 in national points in 2004 ,and got to be on ESPN ,and acouple of mags with the car.It is now sitting "in mothballs" awaiting an engine and some other minor parts to put it back on the street. It is going to have the original 4spd back in itwith a non numbers matching 383 -but still what it had out of the factory.I am going to re-paint it the dark green  -o.e.-color and i am going to black out the hood area.

1951 Oldsmobile, fastback, automatic. Spent one year "fixing it up" (before I got my license) new brakes, tires, shocks, exhaust, & steam on seat covers from Pep Boys. Then, my Dad  found out from a neighbor that the engine had been run low on coolant and for all purposes was shot. This was in 1958. Dad went on a four week hunt and found a 1954 Olds engine and transmission with only 1400 miles. The classic "Little Old Lady" had loaned her car to her grand son who promptly wiped out the rear end after sliding into a tree! Oh, the price for the engine and tranny.....$85.00. I kept the car for three years and traded for 1957 Pontiac.

wow...some make me feel young and some make me feel old!!! the first car I ever bought was a 77 LTD four door, 400m with no exhaust!! that thing did incredible burn outs!! two weeks later it went to Sana Fe speedway in Hinsdale for the spectator races with my year older brother in control because I traded him for his rust bucket 68 cougar and we rebuilt the engine in our basement, now that car was ugly, but did it fly.

Hi all:

My names Jr. My first ride was a black 1960 Ford Falcon that ny dad made me buy so that I would'nt drive his car. I hated it for about a month. All my friends called it the pressure cooker. Then I realized it was all mine and suddenly it was pretty cool. After a set of centerlines you could'nt tell me anything. Anybody from MD out there?

It was 1970 and Iwas driving a 1960 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon I bought from one of my teachers. It ran for a little over a year then the transmission started slipping. I purchased a 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne 4 dr in early 1972 from a friend that really moved. Traded transmissions with a mechanic. He wanted a automatic, and I got a 4 speed. It had a short in the wiring that started an engine fire, and couldn't be put out, way out in the country. Had to sit and watch it burn.entered the USAF in July 1973. In 1974 while at Technical School I purchased a 1963 Chevrolet Biscayne 4 dr. Before leaving Tech School sold it, got stationed in Jacksonville Fla. Purchased a 1970 Plymouth Duster from a fellow Airman. Just 1 month after buying that Duster, I found a 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner, fully decked out, and I wanted it bad. But could not find a way to get rid of the Duster car loan and buy the Roadrunner. That car was sweet, and I can still picture it today, 37 years later. Thanks for the memories.

my first car was a 1972 Toyota Celica built in March..  I was born in June of that year.  I learned to drive a stick shift in that car...and beat it to heck and back and then the engine blew up.  I have owned American cars ever since.

My first car was a 1969 Pontiac GTO, red back in 1974. It had what i thinks is a dual gate trans. Brought it off some guy who had a for sale sign on it. He said it is running great after about a month had to rebuild the enigne then two months latter the trans was starting to slip so I traded in for a 1970 Dodge Super Bee These were the two best cars that I have ever had in the past.

My very first car was a 1969 Red GTO with what I think was a dual gate transmission. But only drove it a week when had to work on the engine, after engine was working again then the transmission started to act up so I traded it in for a 1970 Super Bee. Now that was a daily driver to and from work

Been a spell since I was in here. My first ride was a 67 Chevelle Malibu, 327 powerglide. Kick my self in the buttocks for ever getting rid of it. Was blue and had black primer spots all over it from the previous owner. My buddies nicknamed it the Blue Lepord. Loved that car too.

My First car was a 58 Ford Fairlane 500, 2dr post. It had 332 Police Interceptor With a Holley Four bbl.. Started out as automatic, but too many trips to Islip speedway drag strip killed the tranny. Ran AG/stock Killed a bunch of Chrysler products and a few olds. Then when the tranny went I put in a 3speed with Roller floor shift. Converted to duals with glasspacks. That engine went through camshafts (3) Two Ford and one aftermarket, never did figure out why. Kept losing a lobe on left bank,Had engine fully rebuilt on first one, had heads examined and cam bushings checked on second, third was brand new and when I came down from 110mph on Jones beach Pkwy the lobe was gone again, SOLD IT!

Islip Speedway and racing down the Jone's Beach Parkway, man those were the days-long since gone. Did you ever cruise 231?  Since you were a Local Boy I gotta ask, whenn you lived on the Isle did you Ever go to Chevy's Belair Cafe(The Bar) and if so do you remember all the cars and Memorabilia they had inside?  Man those were the good days.

An old strand, but rewound again!

My first car was a 49 Ford coupe with M/T alluminum finned heads, a Offenhauser tri power manifold w/strombergs and an Isky mid range cam. I paid $25.00 for it. It had linoleum on the floor and three on the tree. I istalled a floor shift and carpet before I drove it. I really wish I still had it

Hey Wheelman, where was 231, what was the name of the road ? I cruised Montauk Hwy from Lindenhurst where I grew up to Sag Harbor where my folks grew up. Lotta memories cruisen the Hamptons and Beach partys on the beach at Southhampton. My brother Danny and his son own Danny's Auto Body in Copiague on Montauk Hwy. He has a 69 Catalina fully restored. I think he is still president of the Pontiac club down there. I don't remember the Cafe, where was it ? I spent a lot of time at the bar on the dock at Babylon a little place on the right as you approach the pier. Do you remember A&W Root Beer drive in Lindenhurst. They had cute girls on roller skates bring out your food.

My first vehicle was a 1986 Chevy four door Dually. The crank shaft broke in half at a main, still ran...sort of, go figure. I got tired of putting starters on it, parked it in my parent's back yard, they made me sell it and took half the money. But the did help me but a 94 Z28 after.....which also blew up....I drive Fords now.

Mine was a 64 Chevelle Wagon with a 283 three on the tree.  Then I got a 71 Pinto for my birthday.  It was a fun car – for a while until it proved too true.  Put In New Transmission Often.  Reverse went out and it went down the road.  Then I drove a 59 Ford F100, and a 64 Wagoneer with a Pontiac OHC 6 in it.  The ‘Hot’ six with a 4 bbl and factory headers, high lift cam etc.

The first car I bought was a 68 Torino GT fastback.  I put a 70 Cleveland 4V in it.  Man she ran good!  I wish I had kept it.  The guy I sold it too - went off into the army and his wife sold it to a junkyard for furniture??  Go Figure.

Then I bought my Mustang in 1980.  Later in the 80's I had a 69 'Stang convertible with a factory 428 and a 71 Mach-1.

Oh Well !

Mine was a 62 Corvair. When I was about to turn 16 my dad told me that if I keep the grades up and stay out of trouble he would buy me a car. He asked what I wanted and I told him a 62 Corvette. I kept everything on track and on my 16th birthday I'm expecting a corvette. My dad comes rolling into the driveway with this multi-colored faded paint 62 Corvair. I said what about the Vette dad. He says, Son you usually only get about half of what you want in life. So now you have the Cor but your going to have to work on the vette yourself. Man, my friends and me had a lot of fun and made a lot memories in that car. Eventually it got put away, as I got older and moved on to newer cars. After working in this industry for a while, I've heard so many people say they wish they had their first car and that prompted me to pull it out from under all the tires and junk in the garage to bring it back to life before it's to late. I'm a relatively young guy and really look forward to growing old with it.
